About this poster
Designed by Chicago artist Tony Fitzpatrick, the 2015 Lollapalooza poster is a layered collage that captures the city’s beauty, grit, and rock & roll spirit. At its center are two “nuclear eternal moths powered by rock ‘n’ roll,” which Fitzpatrick described as benevolent spirits of merriment watching over Chicago. The piece incorporates a treasury of found images — from vintage CTA transfers and cigar bands to matchbook covers from long-gone jazz joints and storied taverns — creating a visual homage to the city’s musical underbelly and history.
The Artist Edition takes this design a step further. Each print is hand-embellished by Fitzpatrick, making every copy a one-of-a-kind memento. Unlike the main edition, it does not include the festival lineup, allowing the intricate details of the collage to stand out. Printed in a numbered edition of 250, each piece is signed by both Tony Fitzpatrick and Lollapalooza founder Perry Farrell, and features a unique hand-designed stamp applied by Fitzpatrick himself.
