About this poster
Designed by legendary Chicago artist Tony Fitzpatrick, the 2015 Lollapalooza poster is a vibrant collage that blends the city’s history, grit, and rock & roll spirit. Fitzpatrick’s design features two “nuclear eternal moths powered by rock ‘n’ roll,” representing benevolent spirits of merriment watching over Chicago.
The artwork incorporates found imagery and artifacts from the city’s past — including CTA transfers, vintage matchbooks, cigar bands, and nods to long-gone jazz clubs and neighborhood haunts. Hidden throughout are tributes to Chicago icons, from historic lamp posts to storied taverns like Ricardo’s, the Zebra Club, and the Ace of Clubs.
With its layers of texture and symbolism, the poster serves as both a celebration of Lollapalooza and a love letter to Chicago’s musical and cultural underbelly. Printed in a single edition run, never to be reissued.
