About this poster
This was a fun one - when sending over the concept I wanted to keep it super simple with a touch of surrealism, so we landed on the idea of a bus stop sheltered by a flower during a rain storm, almost entirely to be able to focus on each raindrop as it fell and rolled down leaves, petals, and blades of grass making their way down to our lone musician making his way to a gig. I also really wanted to mess with drawing things out of focus as they’re way closer to the viewer, so it was a blast to do so on drops of rain and some of the blades of grass down below.
I was heavily inspired by the way night scenes were painted and animated in ghibli films (as well as retro anime in general), and it was a welcome challenge to work almost entirely in blues with the exception of the flowers. The info treatment is a bit of an homage to that inspiration, being that I tried to emulate the big block letters used in the title sequences like spirited away and howl’s moving castle. Working on this was yet another excuse to dive back into the art of those movies and to watch them again, which is always a welcome one 🙂↕️🙂↕️
