About this poster
This was a super fun one - I wanted to approach it as much like a photo as possible, and try to have a way more “grounded” concept that I typically go with for my work. The idea is a community tennis court somewhere in New York, with a net that’s seen many a matches, well loved and in need of a swap out - where a neighborhood kid with a love for the city and for tennis came along and saw their skyline in the shadows during golden hour, so they decided to draw in what they saw. It felt so nice to really get into the creative mind of whoever came along here and act out exactly what I wish I did when I was younger, and I truly hope I was able to capture even an ounce of the imagination that anyone growing up in the city had when they were a kid.
The actual poster composition is super inspired by retro US Open posters from when they were held at forest hills, with some bold and retro type all surrounding an image tying the greatest city on earth to a sport I once played doubles in for two years in high school. Such a blast to get together!!
