Ellen Naomi Cohen, who went by the stage name "Mama Cass", was an American singer and member of the 1960s group the Mamas & the Papas. Known for her powerful contralto voice and stage presence, Elliot became an overnight success with the band in 1965. After the group disbanded, she had a successful solo career, releasing five albums and headlining in Las Vegas.
