About this poster
I usually pick a song to vibe off of with Billy. Heartbeat of America was my choice this time around. Flaming heart with eagles splitting out of it was my choice because It captures some classic Americana and traditional tattoo iconography. Subjectively, the whole vibe of the country has been a bit dark and demonic as of lately. Most of Billy's prints have have been sunshine and fuzzy rainbows so I think there needed to be something to mix it up which is also why I typically go a little darker when I work with him.
Lately I've been vibing with this psychedelic style you've been seeing and his team was cool with it. It gives me a sort of freedom to channel whatever it is that needs to come out. The way I do it is I'll use some imagery as a main anchor (heart) somewhere on the composition, usually the center, and then build it out. I learned that from getting my sleeve tattoo and the way the artist I go to developed it.
Whatever people have said about working with Billy, the music industry is the way it is and moving in the direction its moving but they treat me pretty good and always have. I love the music and enjoy working with them. - Owen Murphy
